Burgers. Beers. Beats .. Burgerstop

Burgers for grown ups is big business at the moment, you only have to head down to the capital to see it, new burger restaurants are opening up all the time, often surrounded by much hype and large queues.

Here in Newcastle we have our own new burger restaurant to get excited about with the opening of Burgerstop just off the Quayside.

Being a bit of a nosy neighbour I've been watching Burgerstop with interest over the last few months.  I first spotted the new restaurant front quite a few months ago and since then have been eagerly awaiting its arrival, quite often with my nose pressed against the glass hoping for a better glimpse of inside.

After what felt like an eternity, Burgerstop finally opened last week and being very eager burger fans we got ourselves there as soon as possible to try out its offerings.

Burgerstop is an independent restaurant offering a laid back place to hang out and indulge in "burgers, beers and beats".

It's small and cosy with cool school canteen style seating and low exposed lights hanging from the ceiling to compliment the yellow glow provided by the giant neon burger displayed in the front window.

I was excited about what was to come as soon as the menus were placed in front of us, they were displayed on lovely little custom made boards and the food choices looked delicious.  Although the menu is small each burger sounded so tasty we struggled to choose, and with great names like "Chilli Chilli Bang Bang" and "Bean Thinking About a Change" it was a very fun menu to look through.

We finally made our choices and eagerly awaited our food which came out really fast and was served wrapped in paper.   This only led to me feeling more giddy, is there anything more exciting than unwrapping your dinner like a present?

Deciding to be sensible for a change we shared a bowl of fries with house salt, which Simon declared were just like the homemade chips his Nan used to make, definitely a compliment as he often tells stories from his childhood about his Nan and they're always full of her wonderful cooking.

To go with our fries I chose the "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner" - a massive deep fried chicken breast filled with lettuce, tomato and Burgerstops very own garlic and tarragon mayonnaise which complimented the chicken so well and made the burger not only really tasty but very unique.

Simon went for the BBQ Pulled Pork which contained low and slow pork shoulder with house slaw and lettuce.   My Mr likes to consider himself a bit of an expert in Pulled Pork, if it's on a menu he will order it without fail so he's sampled quite a few in his time.   Therefore I'm very excited to let you all know that after eating this burger he declared it the best BBQ Pulled Pork he'd ever had and then proceeded to grab a fork and literally scrape off every last bit of pork left on the wrapper.

Each of our burgers were served in a glazed brioche bun which was the perfect bread to sandwich all of the meaty goodness together.

I'm afraid we opted to be sensible for a work night this visit and had diet cokes, but I did have a little look at the beers and, although I'm no expert, I think people will be happy with the choice.

Burgers .. check ; Beers .. check ; and as for the Beats?  Well let's just say that there are a few old classic sing-along rock songs that I haven't been able to get out of my head since!

  5. I think you have to include a burger review to qualify you as a 'real' blogger!! I still haven't :( I'm not a massive burger eater as I don't really eat much meat, though I've started to eat more (mainly for the blog!!). I love the fact that the pulled pork got Simon's seal of approval, Mr S would have also chosen that one (especially with a side of ribs!).
    Lots of love,

  8. This looks pretty cool, we don;t really have any burger 'joints' in my town.. only an american diner, Hickorys, which does some of those man v food challenges..

I have to comment, that Simon always looks so happy and excited by food in your photos.lol Do you not feed him at home.lol

    1. HA! It's probably more that I usually insist that we eat pretty healthily during the week, so if we're out and about eating massive burgers on a Tuesday night he gets giddy ... it could also be that he thinks the bigger smile he does the faster I will say "great photo" and let him eat his burger in peace :P

  17. I have been to hippo in jesmond and I wasn't impressed with thier burger as it was overcooked and dry. However dat bar does awesome burgers as they ask you how well you want it to be cooked and the burger I had was so juicy and tasty! So may check this place out soon.
