Sunday Lunch at Twin Farms

Hello New Girl in Toon readers!

When Chloe asked me if I'd write a guest post for her blog I was chuffed to bits! I'm pretty new on the blog scene and jumped at the chance to feature on Chloe's fab blog.

I decided to write about a place I've loved for years, Twin Farms, on Kenton Bankfoot. We now live a stones throw from here, which means we pop by on a much more frequent basis - hooray!

Twin Farms is a Sir John Fitzgerald's pub but somehow doesn't feel anything like a chain. My favourite other places owned by SJF are Shiremoor House Farm, The Pavilion & Cafe Royal (amazing breakfasts). Incidentally I planned to do my first ever blog post on Cafe Royal, but was too shy to take any photos the morning we went there back in April. How things have changed!

Our favourite time to visit Twin Farms is for Sunday lunch (best meal ever, right?). You just need to make sure you get here early because tables are snapped up pretty quickly, oh and don't eat a big breakfast either :) We usually have a lazy sunday morning and head down for just after 12 (which is when they start serving). On this occasion we got there at about 12.20 and it was already jam packed. Luckily, it's huge and there are loads of tables hidden in little nooks and crannies of this cosy pub! We managed to get seated (I was busy taking photos) but I was a bit gutted at how dark it was at our table - how am i meant to take photos?! BLOGGER PROBLEMS! They turned out okay :)

It's always the same when we pick our roasts, creatures of habit. I go for chicken and my husband goes for lamb. They also do half portions, which we ordered for my mother-in-law. The chicken and lamb were £10 each (well the chicken is £9.95) and the smaller portion was £6.95. I know there are places that do a sunday roast for cheaper, but I think this is pretty reasonable. The Yorkshire pudding is my absolute favourite thing on this plate.

The portion sizes are pretty generous as you can see, great if you haven't eaten all morning!

We decided to share a dessert, the choice was vast, but we settled on a popcorn & honeycomb sundae. We don't often have dessert (as we're so stuffed) but when we do, it's delicious. The sticky toffee pudding is our usual choice (so so good).

You'd never know that the place was packed with the great service from the staff, apart from the queue at the bar, obviously. It's fab to visit all year round, there are benches outside if it's lovely weather (like it was today), but I really love visiting in Autumn/Winter as it's super cosy inside with the fireplaces and wooden beams. There's a really rustic feel to the place. The upholstered chairs are so comfy too, which is always good.

If you're looking for somewhere new to try for Sunday lunch, I'd love to hear what you think if you decide to give it a go.

Hope you've enjoyed reading and big thanks to Chloe for letting me loose on her blog!

Meet the Writer: Shivani lives in the North East with her hubby.   She might be a relatively new blogger but her blog Cloud in a Teacup is already a treasure trove of fun adventures and the most beautiful photography.
