A Guide to Newcastle Resturant Week - January 2017

Can you believe it's that time again? On 16 January Newcastle Restaurant Week will return with a huge list of my favourite restaurants in Newcastle taking part with a variety of tempting deals to make us all quit our New Year's diets before they've even begun.

You can find all of the deals here but if you are struggling to pick where to go here a few of my recommendations and menu highlights.

Fat Hippo Underground

The Deal: 2 courses for £10

Personally I've never been able to manage 2 courses at Fat Hippo but if you can then I am seriously impressed. I hardly need to introduce you all to Fat Hipoo (or Fippo as we like to call it in my house!), I'm yet to meet anyone in Newcastle who doesn't rave about how amazing their burgers are. There's plenty of choice on the Restaurant Week menu including my personal favourite, Candy Man.

George's Great British Kitchen

The Deal: 2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15

Restaurant Week gives you the perfect excuse to try some of the new restaurants that have appeared in Newcastle over the last six months. One of the most popular additions to Eldon Square's Grey Quarter has been George's Great British Kitchen and now's your chance to try it! Fish, Burgers and Candyfloss all appear on the menu - what more could you want?

The Botanist

The Deal: 2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15

The Botanist continues to be one of the most popular restaurants in Newcastle with people queing up to drink decadent cocktails beneath the beautiful fairy lit tree. The restaurant week menu is pretty limited but if you're a fan of the hanging kebabs you're in luck and my favourite, the Baked Cookie Dough makes an appearance on the dessert menu.

The Bottleshop Bar and Kitchen

The Deal: 2 courses for £15

I like to think that if I go on and on enough about how great the Botttleshop Bar and Kitchen is that you'll all go and pay them a visit. Seriously the food is so good! If you have a sweet tooth like me you may be disappointed to hear that there's no dessert menu as part of their Restaurant Week offering but the ridiculously long mains menu should make up for it.

The Jolly Fisherman on the Quay

The Deal: 2 courses for £10 or 3 for £15

Another newbie, The Jolly Fisherman on the Quay has a small but perfectly formed Restaurant Week menu including Craster Kipper Scotch Egg (yes please), Roasted Hake and Sticky Toffee Pudding. Restaurant Week is the perfect opportunity to try out one of Newcastle's most popular new openings.

Turtle Bay

The Deal: 3 courses for £15

I spent quite a lot of 2016 in Turtle Bay - after attending two launch events when it first opened I've since followed it with a girlie dinner, entertaining some "out of towners" and even enjoyed my Geordie Hen at the bar. Order yourself a Run Down followed by the Spiced Chocolate Pot for the win!
