How to Celebrate Father's Day in the North East

This Sunday it's Father's Day and there are plenty of ways you can treat that special guy in your life  with my guide to how to celebrate Father's Day in the North East! I really hope it inspires you to plan something a bit different this year.

Let me know what you get up to!

How to Celebrate Father's Day in the North East

For the "Sport Mad Dad"

The perfect gift for the Geordie Dad has to be a tour of St James Park! Home to the Magpies, the stadium offers several tours including "Tour and Sunday Pub Lunch (£20.00 for adults/£12.00 for children)", Rooftop Tour (£20.00 for adults/£15.00 for children) and a Stadium Tour (£15.00 for adults/£8.00 for children) For more details and to book head over to the Newcastle United FC Page.

For the "Competitive Dad"

If your Dad loves to challenge the whole family to a bit of friendly competition then he'll love a trip to Lane 7. One of the best days out in Newcastle, you can enjoy bowling followed by some ping pong (or beer pong if you fancy it!), mini golf and table tennis!  Then when it all gets too much you can crash out in the bar, treat your old man to a pint and eat as much food as you can!

For the "Sweet Tooth Dad"

Afternoon tea isn't just for ladies you know and if your Dad loves eating then he'll really appreciate Gentleman's Afternoon Tea at the Vermont Hotel (£19.95). Steering away from the dainty sandwiches and cakes, the tea comes fully loaded with scotch eggs, mini burgers, ploughmans, pork pie all washed down with a pint of Wylam Ale. Something tells me Dad's going to be a fan!

For the "Beer Loving Dad"

If your Dad loves a pint then there are loads of fantastic places to take him to this Father's Day. The Botanist's Ale Tasting Masterclass (from £20.00) offers three different classes to improve his knowledge of local and world famous beers. If that doesn't take his fancy then why not book him on a Wylam Brewery Tour (£10.00) at the beautiful Palace of Arts in Exhibition Park. Once the hour long tour is over the Brewery's Tap Kitchen is the perfect place for a cold glass of beer and some delicious food.

For the "early rising Dad"

If your breakfast in bed skills aren't up to much then a little cheating never hurt anyone! Book a table at the Malmaison Newcastle and let someone else prepare your Pa a delicious breakfast. The Father's Day "Man Sized Lunch" (£24.95 per person) includes a free pocket tool and an Auch & Ale Cocktail for Dad. Treat him to food and appetizers from the Chef's table followed by brunch or lunch and dessert.

For the "Meat Loving Dad"

If your Dad is a burger lover then there's no better treat in the Toon than Father's Day at Fat Hippo. It really is the perfect place for a Father's Day lunch. The burgers are well known for being the very best in Newcastle and he'll love sinking his teeth into a monster burger stuffed with the very best fillings.

For the "Problem Solving Dad"

If your Dad is a bit of a know it all he'll love Escape Newcastle (£66 per team of 3-5). Get the whole family involved with the live exit game that will challenge your problem solving, team work and patience. Find clues, solve puzzles and get the key to break out of the room.  If you're a pizza fan you might also be interested to know that there's currently a deal with Pizza Express where you can play a game and enjoy a two course meal for only £29 per person.

For the "Adventure Loving Dad"

If your Dad is a bit of a thrill seeker than he'll love an experience with Turboventures. The Northumberland base team offer paintballing, archery (check out our review here), driving experiences and shooting. Taking place at the beautiful Matfen Hall there's something on offer for every Dad.  If that doesn't take your fancy then check out Red Letter Days who have a range of great activities for Father's Day all over the country.

For the "Try Anything Dad"

Does your Dad love a food challenge?  If your Dad fancies himself as a Man v Food champion then challenge him to tackle one of the region's biggest Freak Shakes. Head to The Brownie Bar in Heaton or Simply Cheesecake & Friends on Dean Street for the most amount of calories you'll ever find in a glass.

For the "Comedian Dad"

Does your Dad fancy himself as a bit of a comedy legend?  If your Dad thinks he's funny then he'll love a trip to The Stand, Newcastle's only Comedy Club or as an alternative why not treat him to a ticket to this year's Jesterval, the North East's premier comedy festival that takes place in July.

For the "Film Fanatic Dad"

If your Dad is a big movie fan there's plenty happening at the Tyneside Cinema on Father's Day. Buy one movie ticket and get one free for your Dad on Father's Day and while you're there why not treat your favourite guy to some fantastic food! Dad's get a free pint when they order the Tyneside Big Breakfast (£12.95) or if you really want to make a day of it book him in for "Who's the Daddy Afternoon Tea (from £14.95) which includes Grilled Cheese Sandwich, Ground Rib Beef Slider and Chocolate Guinness Cake.
