Fat Hippo Christmas Burgers

Our Saturday morning visits to Newcastle usually end in a spontaneous (and pretty naughty) lunch. Standing around in the middle of the street having a debate more often than not we end up in Fat Hippo, our favourite burger restaurant in the Toon. With the promise of Fat Hippo Christmas Burgers on the menu in December it was a easy decision where to lunch on Saturday!

Fat Hippo Christmas

If there's one thing that Fat Hippo does so well it's seasonal specials and the Christmas Burgers are no different. There are two to choose from, one for the meat lovers and one for the veggies.

Undo the top button of your jeans, things are about to get crazy!

If you want a huge dose of stodge after your Christmas Shopping, your Fat Hippo Christmas Burgers choices are The Chuck Berry (£12.90) - Double 4oz patty, Pulled Turkey Thigh, Camembert Fritter, Spiced Cranberry Jelly, Sweet Cure Bacon and Sprout Slaw and the Nutcracker (£9.50) Root Veg Hash, Chestnut & Sage Stuffing, Croxton Brie Fondue, Spiced Pear Chutney and Rocket.

Fat Hippo Christmas Burger Menu

The Chuck Berry was too good to resist and I ordered one without even bothering to look at the main menu. Simon decided that he's too loyal to his old faithful, the Fat Hippo Burger to join me in a festive burger - despite me and the waiter trying to convince him otherwise - Bah Humbug!

I have to say the anticipation waiting for my burger was a killer, the thought of Camembert on top of such an epic amount of meat was making me drool the more I thought about it. The wait was a little like being a kid waiting for Santa to arrive on Christmas morning.

My eyes were bulging when my Chuck Berry appeared in front of me. Fat Hippo Burgers are always epic but this one was on a whole other level. It was stuffed with so much filling it defied the laws of gravity - I have no idea how it arrived looking so perfect!

I gave the burger a proper good squish down and the Camembert oozed out cheese, covering the pulled turkey, bacon and double patty - Christmas heaven! It wasn't long before I'd pulled the whole burger apart, there was no way on earth I was going to attempt picking up that Christmas beast - even with epic amounts of kitchen roll that was never going to end well.

I've never been a big fan of sprouts, they're definitely not something I want on my plate on Christmas Day so I was a little suspicious of the Sprout Slaw that was served on the side of my burger. I was pretty tentative when I dipped in a chip and was so shocked when I discovered that I LOVE SPROUTS (but only if Fat Hippo have smooshed them into a delicious tasting slaw!). If Fat Hippo want to come over on Christmas Day to serve me some of their amazing sprouts with my turkey I'd definitely be up for that.

Fat Hippo Christmas Burger Chuck Berry

If you've ever wondered what Christmas dinner tastes like in a burger then look no further than the Chuck Berry, it was absolutely amazing - the best Fat Hippo burger I've ever had, and that's a pretty bold statement.

Fat Hippo will be serving their Christmas Burgers for the whole of December - go and try them before it's too late!
